BACK to Me and my Shadow supercar: Project notes: Concept sketches part two Real-life supercar and outlaw driver

If you'd prefer to see all of Shadowfast's technical details in ebook form, Dark Horse: The Official Shadowfast Supercar Technical Reference is now available for any Amazon Kindle or Kindle app!

Below is a sampling of freehand sketches of design concepts for various aspects of Shadow while I was in process of designing and building him:

Miscellaneous rear spoiler sketches for custom 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 supercar
The drawings above stem from my contemplation of the rear spoiler design. Note the reference to a possible wing here.

More drawings regarding rear spoiler design.

The actual final design for a rear spoiler for custom 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 supercar
Above a sketch of my flirtation with rear window louvers. But more importantly, a view of how the custom rear spoiler actually turned out. This drawing was likely made after completion of the rear spoiler. To the best of my recall it consisted mainly of three pieces of galvanized steel maybe a bit less than a sixteenth of an inch thick, shaped to extend the Mustang's factory made 'bump' spoiler into something more like the wraparound Pontiac Trans Am spoilers of the time. I also tried to make the corner pieces smoothly blend into the factory lines on the sides. I remember running across factory fiberglass corner posts in a junk yard during this process-- maybe originally from a Boss 302(?). I believe I switched those out for Shadow's original pot metal corner posts and pop riveted the steel spoiler components to those and the trunk lid. I'm unsure if I left the riveting job exposed or smoothed over it with a bit of bondo. The resulting steel spoiler was tough but still somewhat flexible.

Custom dashboard for heavily modified 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 supercar
The sketch above depicts the basic look of Shadow's custom dashboard.

A different view of custom dashboard for modified 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 supercar
Above is another view of the custom dash concept. The use of perspective in the sketch makes the bottom console fire extinguisher look much larger than it truly was. The real thing was maybe eight inches long and six or seven inches thick.

Miscellaneous dash views and more for custom 1969 Ford Mustang Mach 1 supercar
The miscellaneous images above show the general dash idea again, with a close up of the pull down panel which I believe held my standard headlights pull-switch, and my key ignition switch(?) The front view of Shadow here is pretty much what the end product was like.
